Change of plan for Hornby ‘N15s’

The eagerly awaited release by Hornby of SR ‘N15’ Class 4-6-0 The Red Knight has been postponed for the foreseeable future due to inaccuracies found with the intended detail of the model. It has transpired that the prototype The Red Knight was fitted with a unique set of smoke deflectors which is not currently catered for by the ‘N15’ tools at Hornby’s disposal.
“After being contacted by a keen modeller” said Simon Kohler, “I made enquiries and discovered that the smoke deflectors on this locomotive were unique and as we did not have the tooling for the correct deflectors I felt it prudent that we should replace it with another locomotive from the same class that we can produce accurately”
“Hopefully the modellers will accept my reasoning” continued Simon, “but do rest assured we will eventually produce The Red Knight but only when we have tooled the correct components.”

Will R2679 also be withdrawn? It was rebuilt as an A1X in 1919. The model offered as No 5 appears to be an A1. For instance the splasher / sand box over the leading wheel. Also the grill over the rear windows of the cab are not correct. See the book 'Stroudley and his Terriers' by Tom Middlemass, pps 64 & 65.
